SIR – Reader Ken Waddington makes two particular suggestions in his letter (T&A, April 8).

The first is for the Odeon to be demolished and replaced by a new market. This would, of course, fly in the face of public opinion which is looking forward to one of the two proposals currently on the table coming to fruition.

Secondly, he proposes the possible re-opening of the Bradford avoiding line from Laisterdyke to Bowling Junction to “give Bradfordians the through railway route people have talked about for decades.”

This suggestion was actually considered some years ago with the provision of a Bradford Parkway Station on the site of the old Bowling Station, and the possible consequent closure of Bradford Interchange.

As this through route is already in existence, albeit with a reversal at the Interchange, far better to install a through north/south line by the linking of the two existing city centre stations. This would provide far more benefits, and help to further regenerate Bradford, possibly much more than anything else.
