SIR – Following on from two letters which appeared in the T&A recently regarding the campaigns of Tony Benn, it shouldn’t go without mention that Benn was a vegetarian and believed that was a way to an adequate diet.

Regarding sub-standard housing and meagre wages, Benn argued against Margaret Thatcher’s ‘right to buy’ policy and for the ‘right to stay’ for those threatened with homelessness for not being able to pay the mortgage.

He supported trade unions in their aim to improve working conditions and to raise their living standards.

I hope this letter goes some way to answering the readers’ queries.
