SIR – Whatever you think of the Conservative-led coalition Government, you can't fault Tory Employment Minister Esther McVey in terms of her candour.
Not for her any disingenuous statements designed to bewilder or confuse. She prefers to tell it as it is!
Only a few months ago, she was boldly describing the situation of there being food banks in Britain with more than half a million people dependent on them as, “right” in these tough times.
And then recently she stated, without any embarrassment whatsoever, that the Spare Room Subsidy (or ‘bedroom tax’) was “never all about saving money”.
Strange, since this is precisely what her Government has always said it was for. And if not cash, then what?
Labour shadow work and pensions secretary Chris Bryant responded by saying it was a policy “designed as a tax on the poorest and most vulnerable”. Unfortunately Ms McVey did not go that far.
Oh go on Esther, you know you want to!
