WITNESSES are being sought to a collision which left a cyclist unconscious and with injuries to his face.

Police are today appealing for information about the incident in Liversedge which involved a mystery driver who failed to stop at the scene.

The incident occurred at around 11am on Saturday February 27 at the junction of Leeds Road, Huddersfield Road and Halifax Road.

A a 43-year-old man was cycling down Huddersfield Road towards the junction.

As he passed through the junction, an unknown vehicle was waiting to turn right into Halifax Road and pulled across the front of the cyclist.

He collided with the vehicle and was thrown from the bike.

The cyclist was knocked unconscious and suffered significant facial injuries. A number of people stopped at the scene to offer their assistance.

The vehicle involved is believed to be either burgundy or blue.

PC Andrew Senior of the Safer Roads and Neighbourhoods Support Team West said: "I would appeal to anyone who was in the area during the latter part of the morning on Saturday, February 27 to think back and try and remember if they saw anything which may help us determine the full circumstances of what took place.

"A number of people stopped to assist the cyclist, and he would like to express his thanks.

"We continue to appeal for anyone else who may have seen either the cyclist or the vehicle before the incident, the collision, or vehicle involved to come forward.

"I would also appeal directly to the driver of the vehicle to come forward to police. Enquiries are continuing."
