FIFTY students and staff who were taken ill on a European school trip have all now been discharged from hospital.
Pupils and staff from Guiseley School were taken to a hospital in Belgium after they were struck down with the mystery illness when returning from a trip to see First World War war graves on Monday night.
Most of the pupils returned to the school in Fieldhead Road this morning, but four stayed in hospital.
Today acting co-headteacher Paul Clayton said: "I am pleased to say the four students who remained in hospital last night have now been discharged and will now be returning home.
"This has obviously been a worrying time for the families and friends of those who were on the trip and I am extremely grateful for the patience and understanding they have shown as we try to share information with them and keep them updated.
"We will continue to support the students and families as we deal with this incident, and I want to reiterate my thanks to the Belgian authorities and others who have been so helpful and caring."
The illness was thought to have been food poisoning, but Leeds City Council stressed the cause was still unclear.
The 80 students, eight members of staff and two drivers were on their way to Zeebrugge ferry port after the trip to France and Belgium when they became ill.
