Police are warning elderly people to be on their guard against doorstep conmen after bogus workmen targeted vulnerable victims six times in an hour.

The oldest victim was 93, as the thieves attacked homes in Pudsey, Horsforth, and West Park, Leeds, between 4pm and 5pm on Tuesday.

In each case, the conmen tricked their way into elderly women’s homes by claiming to be workmen.

The incidents involved two men. One was described as white, in his 40s, about 5ft 7ins tall, and of medium build and wearing blue trousers and a red and blue checked shirt.

The other man was said to be white, in his 20s, about 5ft 10ins tall, with short dark hair that was possibly curly. He was wearing a light-coloured sweatshirt and dark grey bottoms.

Anyone with information can contact North West Leeds CID, on 101.
