A dozen passengers and two crew members escaped injury after a plane which took off from Leeds-Bradford International Airport crash-landed.

Reports say the undercarriage of a Manx2.com passenger plane collapsed as it flew into Ronaldsway Airport on the Isle of Man on Thursday night.

The Jetstream 31 aircraft GCCPW operated by Links Air, on behalf of Manx2, apparently suffered the problem as it came into land at about 6pm, before coming to rest on grass alongside the runway.

The airport was closed for 50 minutes while emergency services attended. The Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) is now looking into the cause of the crash.

Some details of the incident emerged through social networking sites.

One passenger said on Twitter: “My Manx2 plane just crashed landing in Isle of Man. We all walked off OK.”

The tweeter, called Richard Wild, later said he was fine, but had a “sore back”.

Amateur video footage has also been posted on websites showing the aftermath of the incident.

It shows several firemen, from at least three fire engines that were parked on the runway, walking across to a patch of nearby grass, where the plane had come to rest. A spokesman from Manx2 has been reported as thanking the emergency services and saying the company was “dedicated to passenger safety”.

A spokesman for the AAIB said: “We sent a team last night and the incident is under investigation. The investigation is ongoing and we will produce a report in due source.

“The purpose of a AAIB investigation is to try to find out exactly what happened, learn any safety lessons and to try to prevent anything similar happening in future.”

Manx2 hit the headlines in February last year after a crash in Cork, which killed six people.
