A Bradford businessman hopes to raise £50,000 for a hydrotherapy pool for young people with disabilities and learning difficulties.

A glittering event, organised by Bradford-based PEC Building and Shopfitting will raise money for the Hollybank Trust centre, Mirfield.

The organisation is hoping to replace its existing pool, which has broken lighting and sound systems.

Chairman of PEC and director of the Bradford Chamber of Commerce and Industry Balbir Panesar said he was in “awe” of the children and staff at the centre after meeting them on a recent visit.

Cath Longley, of Hollybank, said hydrotherapy was an important treatment for the profoundly disabled children and young people cared for at the centre.

“Mobility is difficult for the majority of our young people who are often confined to wheelchairs,” she said.

“Hydrotherapy offers them the opportunity to experience mobility without the restrictions of equipment and the buoyancy of the water allows them freedom of movement that would not otherwise be possible.

“In addition to its therapeutic benefits, the hydrotherapy pool also allows the children and young people to play and have fun. Special sessions with their family nurtures bonding between siblings.”

The company hopes to raise the much-needed cash at its fourth annual charity ball at the Aagrah Midpoint, on Friday, September 24.

Mr Panesar said: “I could not help but be awed by the children that are cared for at Hollybank and the people that work there.

“The facilities are second-to-none, but it soon became apparent that aspects of Hollybank are in need of refurbishment.”

Tickets are now available for the PEC Aqua Ball, priced £600 for a table of ten.

There will be a champagne reception followed by a four course banquet, music and other entertainment.
