A pervert window cleaner has been jailed for setting up a spy camera to film a 15-year-old girl showering.

Richard Pogson, 44, filmed the girl for his own sexual gratification and stored the clips on videos, a court heard.

He was locked up for six months by a judge who said the offences were “of the utmost seriousness”.

But after the case, angry relatives of the teenager said Pogson should have been imprisoned for several years.

The girl’s weeping mother, who cannot be identified, said her daughter had been violated and betrayed.

Pogson, of Abbotside Close, Thorpe Edge, Bradford, pleaded guilty to voyeurism and five offences of making indecent images of a child.

Prosecutor David McGonigal told Bradford Crown Court yesterday Pogson set up the camera some time after January last year. He hid it behind a vent in a bathroom and connected it to a TV and video recorder.

Mr McGonigal said Pogson stored three hours of images on five videos. Clips lasted up to 20 minutes.

The court heard the girl had no idea what was going on.

Her mother discovered the camera by chance in October last year when she was visiting the house.

Pogson admitted to police the films were stored for his sexual gratification.

Mr McGonigal said it was an aggravating feature of the case that Pogson stored the images, he did not simply view them.

Pogson’s barrister, Shufqat Khan, said that when police searched the defendant’s home they found other pornography but no more indecent images of children.

Pogson told officers of his sorrow and remorse. A former serviceman, he was of good character and had been married for 20 years.

His wife was 20 years his senior and suffered a stroke in 2002. Pogson was her sole carer and she continued to support him.

He had lost his window cleaning job as a result of the court proceedings and he and his wife had been threatened.

Mr Khan said the offences were more deviant than depraved and Pogson had never physically assaulted a child.

Honorary Recorder of Bradford, Judge Stephen Gullick, said: “The offences are of the utmost seriousness.”

Pogson had committed a gross breach of trust by filming those who used his bathroom.

The judge made a six-year sexual offences prevention order against Pogson. He must not approach the girl or use a camera to record any images.

After the case, the girl’s mother and aunt said the family was devastated by the sentence. They expected Pogson to be locked up for several years.

The teenager’s weeping mother said her daughter had been severely affected.

She said: “She has not come to terms with what happened and is now very withdrawn.

“She is a very private person and this has been devastating for her.”
