Bradford drinkers can sink into a Telegraph & Argus beer to celebrate its 150th anniversary - but we need your help to name it.

The T&A has teamed up with Bradford Brewery to create a drink to mark its milestone on July 16 this year.

The as-yet untitled brew, which is a four per cent deep golden ale, will be premiered at the Bingley Bantams-organised Beer and Gin Festival, held at Valley Parade on Friday, July 13.

A limited run of 40, nine gallon barrels of the beverage have been produced which will be available at more than 350 pubs across Bradford, North West England, York and Harrogate.

Name suggestions can be humourous, historic or media or Bradford-related, but they must be clean. The competition winner will see their suggestion emblazoned across the taps in pubs across Bradford, but will also get the chance to go behind the scenes at Bradford Brewery to see the beer being brewed and enjoy a free meal for two at The Exchange Ale House in Bradford city centre.

Nigel Burton, T&A editor, who will select the winning entry and whose decision is final, invited readers to get creative themselves and enter our competition.

He said: “We are delighted that Bradford Brewery has agreed to brew a special limited edition beer to help us celebrate our 150th and hope that our readers can come up with a topical name that reflects the paper and its presence within the city.

“There’s a lot of excitement in the office to see what T&A readers come up with for a name and ultimately, to see what the beer taste like.

“There is certainly no shortage of volunteers to sample it.”

The T&A will also be going behind the scenes in future weeks during the production process to see how a new beer is created.

Michael Wilkinson, Bradford Brewery’s head of sales, said the readers may find it a tricky task to come up with the name, as company staff themselves often struggle with this part of their job.

He said: “One of the hardest things in coming up with a new special cask ale is choosing a catchy name, so good luck everybody. It is a really challenging competition for the readers.

“It’s got to be going along with everything that is happening in the world at the minute.

“It is over to the readers now. The name needs to be something that resonates with the T&A as well. It is the taste of the T&A.”

Jake Bartlett-Perry, Bradford Brewery head brewer said: “We are really excited to hear about the T&A beer. We have sat down to work out which hops are best to use. The beer will be a golden colour.

“It is a limited edition beer and will be available until the barrels go. It will be available on a first-come-first-served basis. We have got high hopes for this one. It’s going to be a popular one for the summer.”
