A LITTER pick around Bingley’s Three Rise Locks (pictured) organised by Bingley Town Council attracted 30 volunteers who between them collected 55 sacks of rubbish.
Organiser Councillor Edwina Simpson said it was wonderful to see so many turn out on a dismal day, but sad to see how much rubbish there was.
“It was mostly food and drinks packaging, but what I don’t understand is why people would take televisions, car batteries and plastic barrels there to dispose of,” said Cllr Simpson.
The council, which was newly formed in May 2016, has organised a clean up of areas around Bingley every two months since August 2016.
“It was a surprise to see so much litter but the volunteers, including one child, did a marvellous job and that area looks lovely now.”
The next town council organised litter pick will be on April 14.
