A GROUP of artists and educators are visiting the Oastler Centre tomorrow as part of a project to make a hand-drawn map of all the things people love about West Yorkshire.

The group, called We Share The Same Skies, will be asking people to draw colourful maps of their area of Bradford showing the things that they like best about living there.

The maps drawn in the sessions will then be combined with others from markets across West Yorkshire next year to create a picture of the region through the eyes of the people who live and work here.

Ian Martin, one of the founders of We Share the Same Skies, said: “We’ll be recording Bradford people’s local knowledge. The things people really care about, not necessarily the official landmarks.”

The activity is suitable for both adults and children and participants don’t need any artistic skills to take part.”

We Share The Same Skies has been active since 2015, and began life at the Carlisle Business Centre in Manningham, where they organised an event called "What Kind Of Region Do You Want To Live In?", a public brainstorming session to collect ideas for making West Yorkshire better.

Since then the group have run activities in Keighley and Leeds and written about their approach for the influential University of Oxford politics blog.

Ed Carlisle, another member of the group, said: "Our activities are about getting people in West Yorkshire to work together for our common good."

After Bradford, the group will be collecting maps from the rest of the region, and the final map of West Yorkshire will go on display in the spring of 2018.

They will be at the Oastler Centre between 11am and 3pm.
