A MAN was seriously injured by his own vehicle after trying to stop thieves stealing it from outside his home in Bradford today.

Armed police were deployed to look for the stolen vehicle, a black Mitsubishi L200 Animal pick-up, but could not find it. It was later found about one and a half miles away on Bell House Avenue, Bierley, at about 10.30am.

Detective Inspector Andy Howard, of Bradford District CID, said: "Our initial enquiries suggest that the victim has been struck by his own vehicle as he has attempted to stop the thieves from driving away.

"This is a distinctive vehicle which has a chrome bar on the front and I would ask for anyone who may have seen this vehicle since 4.15am today to contact Bradford District CID on 101, quoting log number 119 of April 12, or to report anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111."

The injured man is currently in a stable condition in hospital, said police.
