A SON, who plundered nearly £70,000 from his sick mother's bank accounts, has been ordered to pay her £56,000 in compensation.

Steven Darvill was jailed last May for three years and seven months.

He systemically raided retired nurse Hazel Riley's nest egg and pension pot over five years, leaving her penniless and with bailiffs at her door.

Mrs Riley, 79, of Allerton, Bradford, who suffered with Alzheimers Disease, was left without food and clothing and opened an empty purse when she tried to pay for meals at a day centre.

Yesterday, at a Bradford Crown Court proceeds of crime hearing it was agreed that Darvill, 56, of Ashfield Road, Birstall, had an available amount of £56,005.

Judge David Hatton QC ordered Darvill pay the amount in compensation to Hazel Riley within three months, which would come from the sale of his house. He will face 12 months imprisonment in default.
