TWO men are to be tried for attempted murder after a 53-year-old woman suffered serious stab wounds at her Bradford home.

Maxi Lord and Mariusz Ochnio pleaded not guilty to the offence when they appeared in custody at Bradford Crown Court today.

Lord, 41, of Summer Hill Street, Lidget Green, Bradford, and Ochnio, 35, of Laisteridge Lane, Great Horton, Bradford, denied attempting to murder Gabriela Danihelova on October 21 last year.

The men also pleaded not guilty to having an offensive weapon, a knife, in Hoxton Street, Girlington, on the same date and having a baseball bat as an offensive weapon.

Crown Prosecution Service advocate, Dave MacKay, said the prosecution's case was that both defendants went round to an address in Hoxton Street armed with weapons.

He asked for special measures when Miss Danihelova and two other women give evidence at the five day trial, set to begin on April 11. They will either appear before the court on a video link or have screens around them in the witness box.

Lord, who wore a light blue tracksuit top with white stripes, and light blue jeans, had the assistance of a Croatian interpreter.

Ochnio, who was dressed in a light grey sweatshirt, had a Polish interpreter with him in the dock for the short hearing.

Andrew Walker, lawyer for Lord, told the court he had not yet seen the medical evidence detailing the wounds Miss Danihelova sustained in the alleged attack.

Mr MacKay said the civilian witnesses would need a Slovakian interpreter for the trial.

The Recorder of Bradford, Judge Roger Thomas QC, told the defendants: "The case continues to move forward on the schedule that was first set. That means that the next date when you are back in court is the 11th of April. That is when the trial will take place, and will be concluded, and you are remanded in custody until then."

Miss Danihelova is the mother of Lord's former partner.

He is accused of repeatedly stabbing her at her home address after turning up with Ochnio in the mid morning.

Miss Danihelova was taken to hospital with multiple wounds to various parts of her body.
