A WOMAN has been jailed for ten years for relentlessly burgling vulnerable elderly people after tricking her way into their Bradford homes.

Drug addict Basia Chapman, who was shown kindness and given cups of tea by her three trusting victims, showed no emotion as she was led to the cells at Bradford Crown Court today.

Chapman, 38, of Colyton Mount, Allerton, Bradford, conned her way into the home of a lonely 79-year-old woman she had burgled five years previously.

The pensioner moved house to avoid Chapman when she was released from a two year jail sentence imposed in March 2010.

But Chapman, a heroin addict, discovered the woman's new address and was suspected of burgling her in October 2014.

When the police installed hidden cameras in the house, Chapman was caught rifling through the pensioner's pockets and private papers.

She returned to the address twice more, pestering to be allowed in and was arrested at the scene.

Chapman went on to burgle a man aged 89 and a 90-year-old woman living on the same street on January 6 last year.

She stole £15 from the man and his disabled daughter and £40 from the woman's purse.

Jailing Chapman ,who admitted the burglaries, the Recorder of Bradford, Judge Roger Thomas QC, told her: "These are dreadful offences."

"You took very nasty and dishonest advantage of them. This was planned and deliberate targeting of elderly people."

After the case, a West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Chapman cruelly tricked her victims by pretending to be their friend and then stealing from them.

"We are pleased with the strong sentence she has received today and hope it will give them some comfort.

"We also hope it will deter others from getting involved in this despicable crime."
