BRADFORD Teaching Hospitals Trust is "definitely proud" to have been chosen as one of three regional centres to champion national improvements in wheelchair services.

Those were the words of the Trust's head of therapy services Jill Gregson, who was speaking after an open day to mark the occasion yesterday.

More than 50 people visited the open day at Bradford Wheelchair Services to learn more about the service and what is on offer.

Mrs Gregson said: "We are really pleased, it went really well. There was a range of people there, including service users, relatives, other wheelchair services and professional services, people from the clinical commissioning groups in Bradford, and the National Wheelchair Alliance.

"We had a number of manufacturers of wheelchairs there to show the types of wheelchairs on offer. People could try and sit in the chairs. We also showed some of the specialist equipment we have."

She added: "It was also about us pledging and signing up to implementing the National Wheelchair Charter - people took away lots of information on that.

"It was all well worth it definitely and we will do future events. We are definitely proud to be chosen as one of the three centres."

Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson announced the National Wheelchair Charter prior to the open day.

By signing the charter the Trust pledges to support the development of an NHS wheelchair service that can deliver a fair and effective service for all people who need to use it.
