FOUR men were arrested and suspected drugs and cash seized when armed police swooped on a quiet Bradford cul de sac during an afternoon raid.

The dramatic raid took place on Clay Hill Drive in Wyke shortly after lunch yesterday, and resulted in the men being arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply class A drugs.

Eyewitnesses spoke of the dramatic scenes as several police vehicles descended on the road, with the men being led to police cars by armed officers in full view of neighbours.

Detective Chief Inspector Gary Hooks, of Bradford District Police, said: “At 12.35pm armed officers carried out a pre-planned operation in Clay Hill Drive.

“A quantity of what was believed to be class A drugs and cash was recovered following a search of two properties and two men aged 37 and 39 were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply class A drugs.

“Two other men, aged 22 and 28 were also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply class A drugs.

“All four are currently in custody and enquiries are continuing.

“This not only demonstrates our commitment to tackling drugs in Bradford District, but also shows the public can be confident that we will act on information and arrest those who are believed to be responsible for peddling these illegal substances.”

Residents told the T&A that around eight police vehicles, some of which were unmarked, swooped on the road.

After the arrests they saw officers collecting evidence from a property on the street.

Crime scene investigators were still at the scene for several hours after the arrests, with two officers stood outside one of the houses.

Rob Green, who lives just yards from where the men were arrested, watched the incident from his window.

He said: “There must have been about eight or 10 vehicles. There were a lot of armed police on the road.

“One police vehicle blocked a car in, it looked like a Silver Laguna.

“I saw at least three people arrested, maybe four. I didn’t recognise the men who were arrested. It is quite a respectable road, it is normally very quiet here.”

Police said that anyone with information should call 101.
