MORE than 150 cyclists took the opportunity to give their bikes a well-deserved health-check at a workshop in Shipley yesterday.

The Bradford Big Bike Revival, part of a national programme to encourage more people to dig out their old bikes and re-connect with the joys of cycling, was held next to the Leeds Liverpool Canal towpath in the car park of the Quays, the base of social housing landlord Incommunities.

The event was run with Wibsey-based community cycle project, The Bikery, with experts on hand to repair bikes or take donations of unwanted bikes for fixing and giving to others.

Free bike lights, mudguards and reflective stickers were given out to those who completed a cycling survey, and other attractions included a pop-up café where keen riders could make their own pedal-powered smoothies.

Steve Short, director of Incommunities, Open Field, said: “The event was a fantastic success with over 150 people coming along to pick up tips on maintaining their cycles and have running repairs.”
