SECTIONS of the Aire Valley trunk road will be closed next month when major resurfacing work is carried out.

Three roundabouts on the A650 – at Cottingley, Crossflatts and Marley – are being resurfaced.

Traffic will be diverted along the B6265 Bradford Road during the work, on three weekends.

Resurfacing of the Cottingley roundabout will take place from Saturday, November 1 until early on the Monday.

Work at the Crossflatts site is scheduled to be carried out from 5am on Saturday, November 8 until about 5am on the Monday.

And the Marley scheme is planned for the following weekend.

Coun Val Slater, Bradford Council's executive member for housing, planning and transport, said: "We realise that closing the A650 may cause some people considerable disruption but this resurfacing work is essential and we will try to keep the disruption to a minimum."

The council says access to businesses and for local residents will be maintained.

A spokesman told us: "We appreciate that this route is extremely busy but it will need to be closed so that the work can be carried out as safely and quickly as possible.

"Inevitably this will lead to traffic delays, for which we apologise. We would urge people to allow extra time for their journeys."
