PEOPLE are being reminded that as of today the 01274 area code will be needed to make local calls in the Bradford telephone area on a landline.
The change is designed to safeguard the future supply of landline numbers in the area and avoids the need to change existing phone numbers.
Without the change, the supply of new numbers was expected to run out within 12 months.
If the area code is not used when dialling locally callers will not be connected and instead hear a message asking them to redial and include the code.
It will allow Ofcom to allocate phone numbers which begin with a 0 or 1.
CALLS WILL CHANGE TO MEET DEMAND AS BRADFORD PHONE NUMBERS RUN OUT
