The head of a Bradford charity, which helps abused women, has called for a more joined up approach between support agencies to prevent other tragedies like the death of Hamzah Khan.

Yasmin Khan, director of Staying Put, which supports women who are victims of domestic abuse, admitted agencies sometimes did not talk to each other.

And she questioned whether society was letting down “vulnerable” women like Amanda Hutton.

Mrs Khan said Hutton had a prolonged history of abuse in her life and there were lots of issues leading up to Hamzah’s death.

She said: “There are lessons that must be learned. All the agencies – statutory and voluntary – need to change. We must make sure we have a joint approach.

“The aim of all the agencies is to give the best care we can to vulnerable people. Sometimes we don’t get that right. Agencies need to learn and share the lessons learned. We all need to be honest about where the shortcomings are.”
