A sub-postmaster in jail for plundering more than £19,000 from his employers was too broke to pay anything back, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.
Khayyam Ishaq was brought from prison back to the court for a confiscation hearing under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
Ishaq, who ran Birkenshaw Post Office, Bradford, was locked up for 54 weeks in April for operating a postage stamp scam.
He used the money to prop up the business, the court was told.
Ishaq, of Brewerton Lane, Dewsbury, pleaded guilty to theft.
Judge John Potter ruled that Ishaq’s benefit from crime was £19,235 and his available assets were nil.
The court was told he had a £300 car the Crown was not bothered about and two properties, one in mortgage arrears and the other in negative equity.
Judge Potter made a nominal confiscation hearing in the sum of £1.
