Mods, rockers and hippies will be descending on Haworth this weekend as the village swings back to the 1960s.

The village’s fourth 1960s weekend, which starts at 10am on Saturday, will include a host of music, dance, and street performances reminiscent of the era.

All of the weekend’s day-time entertainment will take place in Haworth Park with tarot card reading, a ‘flower power’ stall, rocket building, face painting, a microbrewery, balloon modelling and birds of prey demonstrations on offer.

Visitors can also have their photographs taken next to Dr Who’s Tardis and a Dalek, visit an exhibition on the Peace Movement in Yorkshire or walk Guide Dogs’ puppies.

Attractions also include a small fun fair and organisers hope to run a ‘pirate radio station’ broadcast from a small boat in the park.

A Bob Dylan tribute, the Rob Dylan Band, will perform at Haworth Old Hall pub, opposite the park, from 9pm on Friday while the Small Fakers will play at the venue from around 1pm on Sunday.

Singer Ian David Greenaway will perform songs by icons including Billy Fury, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison and Buddy Holly on Haworth Parish Church steps throughout the weekend, while Beatles Revolution will play at the Black Bull in Main Street, from 9pm on Saturday using costumes and musical equipment from the 60s.

The pub will also host a retro fair in the car park during the weekend with a display of 1950s and 1960s cars.

There will also be a themed dance with live music and a disco at Parkside Social Club in Butt Lane on Saturday evening.

Linda Presley, chairman of Haworth Village Association and one of the event’s organisers, said: “There’s lots going on all around the village. During the day it’s for families and in the evening it’s for those that want to go out. Whereas the 1940s weekend has lots of re-enactors, the 1960s weekend is about embracing the era. As we know the 1960s was a much more fun time.

“From that perspective it’s going to be really good fun.”

Anyone able to lend a boat for the weekend for the ‘pirate radio station’ should call Linda Presley on 07980 710668. Tickets for the Parkside Social Club dance cost £10 and can be bought by calling 01535 647446.
