A MAN who exposed himself to children on two occasions while subject to a conditional discharge for similar offences has been jailed.

Jonathan Emmott, 51, had been convicted after a trial at Keighley and Bradford Magistrates’ Court of exposing his genitals in Bradford and Keighley.

The first incident was in front of two 12-year-old girls in Bradford on March 30 this year.

The second occasion occurred on June 17 this year in Keighley in front of four children, one of whom was one of the 12-year-olds he had exposed himself to in Bradford.

Prosecuting, Gbemiro Igunnubole said Emmott, of West Bank Close, Braithwaite, Keighley, also made threats to the 12-year-old, knowing she was a witness in the first case.

Mr Igunnubole also said Emmott used threatening behaviour towards the father of the other 12-year-old involved in the Bradford incident, who had confronted Emmott after learning about it.

“The defendant was heavily in drink on both occasions,” he said.

“On the second occasion he had approached the four children.

“He was swaying and appeared to be drunk.”

Mr Igunnubole said two of the children ran off and the defendant dropped his trousers to his knees, exposing his penis to the 12-year-old and another child.

Emmott was arrested on the same day, was interviewed and denied both charges.

He was said to have been convicted three times for four offences in the past.

The last time was on June 23 last year for public nuisance and indecent exposure.

He received a 12-month conditional discharge and was now in breach of this for the latest two offences.

Defending, Ray Singh said his client had received the conditional discharge at a time when he was drinking heavily. A friend of his had tried to help him curb his intake but there had been a lapse.

“There was no suggestion of him trying to have physical contact on these occasions and since his arrest had been in custody for three months.”

Judge David Hatton QC told Emmott: “You seem to have an unhealthy and unpleasant habit of exposing your genitals to children, causing them obvious distress. It is clear that only a custodial sentence can be appropriate.”

Emmott was jailed for a total of 15 months: four months for the offence on March 30, six months for the offence on June 17, two months for intimidating a witness and three months for breaching a conditional discharge. He was also given a sexual harm prevention order.
