MORE than 70 tractors took to the streets of Keighley today for the annual Charity Bronte Tractor Run.

The fun filled event started from the Colin Appleyard Suzuki garage in Halifax Road, before heading out to Laycock, Oldfield and Oxenhope, finishing off in Haworth at the Bronte Hotel.

The tractor run has been held annually for the last 16 years to raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Louise Turner, one of the event organisers, said the event is a great way to see the countryside.

She said: "We had 70 to 80 tractors, an old Haworth fire engine, cars and camper vans, so there was quite a variety.

"We headed up Main Street, Haworth, to do some fundraising, before ending up at the Bronte Hotel for a meal and the raffle.

"It's the people that make the event such fun, we had a lot of new people this year wanting to join in. It's a great day out and a nice way for people to take in the country views."

Ms Turner's father, Stanley Turner, founded the tractor run as a way to give something back to the Air Ambulance after the service helped one of his friends who was taken ill while at a sheepdog trial in the countryside.

Mr Turner normally leads the procession but was unable to this year after being run over by his own tractor, but Ms Turner said despite 11 broken ribs and a fractured sternum he was recovering well but was disappointed that he could not take part.
