A DRUG and alcohol agency is appealing for help so it can stage a Christmas party for service users and their families.

Up to 100 people are expected to attend the event, hosted by Project 6 in Temple Street, Keighley.

A team of staff and volunteers at the charity also took part in the Skipton Santa Run last weekend to raise funds to help cover the costs of the party.

And the agency is appealing to the public for support.

People are asked to sponsor the team through its online fundraising page – justgiving.com/fundraising/hayley-thomas17 – or donate small gifts for distribution at the party, on December 14.

Lynn Lawson, director of development and communications with Project 6, said: “Christmas is supposed to be a time of gifts and family gatherings, but for families struggling with drug and alcohol problems it can be a very different picture – especially for the children.

“Every year we provide a party for 90 to 100 service users and their families. This includes a Christmas dinner cooked and served by staff and festive activities. Each person receives a gift, delivered in person by Santa Claus in his grotto.

“This year we are looking for support from the local community to help with the party.

“We are also seeking donations of small gifts.

“Providing a Christmas party, with great food and worthwhile gifts, helps support families using Project 6 services to stay motivated and keep on with their recovery.

“People really do recover from drug and alcohol problems and support from the community would be a fantastic boost to them in helping them believe their efforts are recognised.”

Project 6 asks that gifts be delivered to 11 Temple Street by December 6. Any surplus items will be held over to next year’s party.

Should there be excess sponsorship money, it will go towards buying equipment for the charity’s allotment which users tend as part of their recovery programme. Produce from the allotment will be used for the charity's Christmas dinner.
