A MAN seriously injured in an accident at Crossflatts on Tuesday night has died in hospital.

Antony Brett, 51, was struck by a car in Keighley Road at about 7.30pm.

He was taken to Leeds General Infirmary, where he died yesterday afternoon.

Family of Mr Brett, who lived in Keighley Road, have paid tribute to those who helped him after the accident.

His brother, David, said: "I would like to thank – on behalf of the family – the staff at LGI, the emergency services and other people who helped at the scene.

"We are aware that they worked tremendously hard to help Antony after he received extensive injuries in the accident.

"Whilst I wish to make no comment about the circumstances of the incident, as that is a matter of police investigation, I would like to express my sympathy for the driver involved.

"The family appreciates the messages of support received, but would ask in other ways that their privacy is respected at this difficult time."

The 74-year-old driver of the blue Hyundai i10 involved in the accident was spoken to at the scene by police.

Investigating officers have appealed for anyone who witnessed the accident, or the movements of the car – which was travelling towards Riddlesden – or pedestrian Mr Brett immediately before it, to come forward.

The incident happened close to the junction with Micklethwaite Lane.
