A PARISH council meeting was informed of an initiative to help combat littering at a popular Haworth beauty spot.

Bradford Council's Worth Valley and Keighley West ward officer Liz Parker, said she and her colleagues hope to attract sponsorship to fund extra litter bins for the edges of Penistone Hill.

Addressing members of Haworth, Cross Roads and Stanbury Parish Council, she added that the cost of buying and installing each bin would come to £360.

Cllr Peter Hill recommended seeking support from walking groups which often make use of this area.

Stanbury resident and former parish councillor John Suckling said: "More bins are a good idea, but you need to think about exactly where you locate them and you also need a commitment from Bradford Council that these bins will be emptied on a regular basis."

Responding to a query from Cllr Hill, Ms Parker confirmed that the district council's cleansing teams have to stick to the streets, so would not be able to go off-road to access the car park on Penistone Hill.
