THE death of a rugby player who died while holidaying on a Greek island is being probed by police, it has been revealed.

Police in Greece have launched an investigation into the death of 23-year-old Danny Kelly, who died on Monday during a break in Zakynthos.

Leeds-based Harrison Bundey Solicitors, which is acting on behalf of Mr Kelly's family, said it was understood Mr Kelly was the victim of a serious assault and had fled into the sea.

Partner Ruth Bundey emphasised investigations were still at an early stage, adding that it was possible there would be a second post-mortem examination once Mr Kelly's body was brought back to the UK.

"Once this happens Bradford Coroners office will be making their own inquiries and will liaise with the Greek authorities," she said.

A spokesman for the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office said it could not comment on any ongoing police probe.

Mr Kelly was a keen amateur rugby player, who had competed for Cowling Harlequins and Worth Village amateur rugby league teams.
