A TEENAGE motorist drove dangerously during a police pursuit, days after passing his driving test, a court heard today.

Bradford Crown Court was told that 19-year-old Kane Webster had to take his driving theory test seven times before passing.

Five days later, on September 6 last year, police asked him to stop his distinctive Fiesta car in Keighley town centre, but he carried on driving.

Officers illuminated their blue lights and sounded their sirens, but Webster drove off at speed.

Prosecutor Jonathan Sharp said the defendant had not travelled a great distance and quickly turned off the main road. He drove around a few streets before stopping and hiding under a bush. Webster threw a bag, containing nearly 85 grammes of cannabis, out of the car window.

Webster, of Upper Hird Street, Knowle Park, Keighley, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and possessing cannabis.

His solicitor advocate, Anne-Marie Hutton, said he accepted he was very foolish but had learned his lesson.

Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC sentenced Webster to a community order, with 120 hours unpaid work and a 30-day medium activity requirement, concentrating on safe driving. He disqualified him from driving for 12 months and ordered him to take an extended retest.
