THIS year's instalment of a music festival run by Keighley Town Council has been cancelled.

Aire-do 2015 had been due to take place on Saturday August 1 and Sunday August 2 in the grounds of Cliffe Castle Park. The annual event has been running for at least a decade.

Stockbridge resident Kaya Capper, who has attended the Aire-do for the last five years, says she is hoping to salvage something from the bad news by organising a smaller live music event at the same venue for the Sunday.

"I was devastated to hear it was being called off," she said. "The Aire-do is so important to me as a mum, and important for my family."

Confirming the cancellation, Keighley town mayor Councillor Javaid Akhtar, said: "This decision was taken by the Events and Leisure committee at its meeting in view of a risk assessment produced by a senior council officer.

"The risks highlighted were based on the resignations of the town and deputy town clerk who was also the designated events officer to lead the Aire-do event.

"Due to these unforeseen circumstances and factors beyond our control the council was left in a situation where it did not have the legal capacity due to the lack of staff with the relevant experience, knowledge, qualifications, and skills to stage the event."
