A HEARTBROKEN fiancee whose 'soulmate' died in a crash only weeks before Christmas has made an emotional plea for information.

Rebecca Gregory said she was desperate for answers about the circumstances of her husband-to-be's death.

Motorcyclist Brett Hames was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary with serious head injuries after the accident, near Laycock, and died shortly afterwards.

He was on his way home from work in Keighley on December 5 when it is believed he was involved in a collision with a black car.

But police investigations and appeals for witnesses have so far failed to shed light on precisely what happened.

Rebecca revealed that 24-year-old Brett, who worked as an apprentice property engineer, was about to put his motorbike into storage.

"He was intending to take it off the road for the winter months and then this happened," she said.

"Brett travelled along that route every day so he knew it very well.

"I'm barely coping. Brett was such an amazing person and I'm still struggling to come to terms with the fact he has gone.

"What makes the loss worse is not knowing what caused the crash and the possibility there was another vehicle involved.

"I would ask that person, or anybody who is able to help, to please come forward.

"There's no suggestion it was anything other than an accident, but we just need to know what happened."

Rebecca, 22, who was due to marry Brett next year, moved out of the house they shared at Foulridge following the accident and now lives at Trawden.

"I just couldn't stay there," she said.

Police say the crash happened in Pole Road, between Laycock and Cowling, at 2pm on December 5.

It was known that the driver of a lorry and a Luton van stopped at the scene, but an appeal for witnesses brought no response.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who was travelling along Pole Road in either direction that afternoon.

Traffic Constable Dave Seavers, of the North Yorkshire Police Major Collision Investigation Unit, said some drivers who arrived at the scene following the accident had got in touch.

But he added: "We still need people who saw a motorcycle or another vehicle travelling in Pole Road in the time immediately before the collision, along with anyone who witnessed the collision itself, to come forward.

"It is vital we find out exactly what happened to cause Brett to come off his motorbike. Brett’s loved ones deserve to know how he lost his life."
