CAMPAIGNERS for a Bingley Town Council are hosting a stall in the town’s market this Saturday.
People will then be able to sign a petition for a new local council covering Bingley, Cottingley, Crossflatts, Eldwick, Gilstead and Micklethwaite.
Ros Dawson, who chairs Bingley Community Council Group (BCCG), which is campaigning for the change, said: “We’re grateful many shops, churches and pubs in the area are gathering signatures and hundreds of people have backed the plan.”
BCCG will also be taking a market stall on November 29, December 6 and December 20.
The petition must be signed by 1843 residents – ten per cent of the 18,427 electorate in the area to be covered by the new council.
It will then be presented to Bradford Council, which must then consult on the suggestion.
