A MEN’S club has taken the decision to open up membership to women after 104 years.
A vote was passed by an overwhelming majority to also re-name Ben Rhydding Men’s Club as Ben Rhydding Snooker Club.
President Mike Jennings said: “We are delighted to now welcome members of any gender to the club to play snooker and billiards, whether as juniors (eight to 17 years) or seniors (18 years and over). We are pleased to take this major step forward in modernising the club and truly opening it up to all of our local community, we recognise how out of step it is to limit participation in any sport and hope that Muirfield Golf Club now follow our example!”
The snooker and billiards club, in Wheatley Lane, Ben Rhydding, is managed by volunteers. For further details, contact the secretary, Peter Duffield, on 01943 875772.
