DAREDEVILS are set to start 2016 in an unusual way by taking the plunge on Ilkley Moor.

White Wells spa cottage is opening up its cold water plunge bath for its annual event tomorrow.

More than 140 people braved the 4ft 6ins deep pool with water at just seven degrees centigrade last year and the cottage's owners were expecting a busy time tomorrow.

People from across the Bradford district and further afield are expected to change into their swimwear and take the plunge between 10am and 5pm.

Mark Hunnebell, who runs White Wells and organised the event, said: "New Year's Day is usually the busiest day of the year for us.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

"It's a novel way to bring in the new year. The weather was not good last year but we still got 144 people who went into the water.

"We have had a two-year-old taking part in the plunge before.

"We were getting everything sorted out today. We get people from all over Yorkshire taking part.

"This is the 16th year we have done the plunge pool since we took over in 2000."

Since 1995, people have been queuing up to take a traditional New Year's Day dip in the 8ft by 6ft stone bath.
