THE unveiling of a blue plaque on an historic building in Addingham has been described as a “proud moment” for the village.
Deputy Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Roger L’Amie pulled back the curtain on the plaque which now adorns the Old School, on Main Street, and commemorates its historical significance.
The building dates back to 1669 and has served the village as a jail, school and various shops. It is currently a library and a meeting room for the village parish council.
Councillor Catherine Coates, chairman of Addingham Parish Council, said: “It is absolutely a proud moment. The Old School building is one of importance to the village and we thought it would be really nice to recognise the building.”
The application for the blue plaque was a joint-venture between the parish council and Addingham Civic Society.
Earlier this year a blue plaque dedicated to a pioneering missionary, the former pastor William Kendall Gale, was unveiled at Mount Hermon Chapel in Addingham.
