A village hall has been given a £6,000 gift on its 50th anniversary.

The money will help the management committee of the Pool-in-Wharfedale hall carry out part of a £20,000 refurbishment plan that was dealt a body blow earlier this year when it emerged that the building needed a new boiler and heating system. The £6,000 will help the committee refurbish and redecorate the main hall, kitchen, entrance, toilets, meeting room and stairs.

Leeds North West (Outer) Area Committee, which approved the funding, has also awarded £1,677 to St Wilfrid’s Parish Church in Pool.

The church will use the money to cover the expenses it incurred replacing its mains water supply pipe, after a split was found in the old lead pipe that had been serving the building.
