Volunteers at a charity shop are hoping to kickstart a bid to get more than 1,200 women to take part in a fundraising fun run.

Last year, £72,000 was raised by 1,200 women taking part in Ilkley’s first 5km Race for Life in aid of Cancer Research UK. Now, the organisers want to make this year’s event, on Sunday, June 10, even bigger.

The Race for Life was unveiled by volunteers at the Cancer Research UK shop in The Grove, Ilkley, by women who are expecting to take part. Among them was manager Elaine Hildreth. “Last year was a real success as Ilkey is not the biggest place,” she said. “But this year we want to better that.”

The race will take place at East Holmes Field in Ilkley. It is non-competitive and women can choose to walk, jog or run. To join the event, visit raceforlife.org or call 0871 641 1111. Alternatively, pick up an application form at the shop.
