Elderly residents were treated to wartime nostalgia during a 1940s afternoon held at Peel Park Primary School, Undercliffe.
Year Four pupils performed a play about World War Two combing art, drama and literacy for seniors living close to the school. After the play, children led the audience through a rendition of Run Rabbit Run and other songs from the era before a VE Day street party was thrown with cream teas being served.
School staff were encouraged to join the children in replicating the period dress code and the school hall was decked out with bunting.
Lynne Dobson, the school’s art teacher, said: “It was a really fun afternoon at which we made our local elderly folk feel welcome – a good old knees up!”
