Two Bradford churches have been recognised in a Church of England report on working in a multi-faith environment.

Senior clergy from across the country visited St Augustine in Undercliffe and St Clement in Barkerend due to their large number of Muslim parishioners.

The report noted people of different faiths regularly visited the churches for social activities including toddler groups and gardening. Members of the church visited nearby mosques.

Every weekday the churches announce 9am prayers with a bell, like a Muslim call to prayer.

The Bishop of Bradford, the Right Reverend David James (pictured), said: “I am proud of the way the Bradford Diocese has inspired this report. It is seen as an example for the rest of the Church of England as to what is possible in our inner-city parishes where there is a higher proportion of people from other faiths. There are many good things going on here – we have some caring and compassionate churches led by some inspiring clergy.”
