A Bradford primary school pupil has triumphed at sporting competition for disabled youngsters.
Ten-year-old Maariyah Bibi, of Girlington Primary School, won a gold medal at the Federation of Disability Sports Organisations’ Deaf Athletics Championships at the Keepmoat Stadium in Doncaster.
More than 200 athletes representing 12 schools across Yorkshire and Humberside took part in the event, including 17 Girlington Primary pupils who have impaired hearing.
Pam Orme, a teacher at the school, said: “Maariyah had trained hard at school and on the day was very focused and determined to do well. It was a wonderful run.”
Ian Spencer, of the Federation of Disability Sports Organisations, said: “Maariyah has certainly got what it takes to be a committed athlete.”
The event was sponsored by npower and volunteers from the company acted as guides and presented medals to the winners.
