Prize-winning growlers and soft furnishings produced by two businesses in Birkenshaw, Bradford, have made their TV debut on the BBC drama South Riding.

Butcher Paul Hopkins, who owns P&I Hopkins in Bradford Road with his brother Ian, said they were asked to create pies to reflect the 1930s era for the three-part adaptation of Winifred Holtby’s book filmed around Yorkshire including Bradford, Keighley and Saltaire.

His team provided 36 pies which appeared in a scene where a woman is seen selling them to workmen. “We are chuffed. It’s another compliment to us. I am always proud to be a Yorkshireman and being in a Yorkshire series like that must be good,” said Mr Hopkins.

Hina Huntington and her team at Junelle Interiors, neighbours of Hopkins, created loose seat covers, bandstand covers and a toiletry bag.

Seamstress Sue Chandler, who worked on materials for scenes, went to Wellington Road Junior School in Bradford with actor Peter Firth, who played politician, Anthony Snaith, in the series which concluded on Sunday.
