Parents and schoolchildren held a march to campaign for a secondary school in Birkenshaw.
Campaigners marched from Birstall, Gomersal, East Bierley and Birkenshaw to Birkenshaw Middle School on Saturday where they released 1,000 biodegradable helium balloons.
The march was held as a call for Kirklees Council to back proposals to create a £30 million high school on the current school site. The march also raised money for local charities Rueben and Friends and Candlelighters.
March co-organiser Lesley Surman said: “Kirklees councillors must see that as a united community we are not willing to accept anything less than what our children and our community deserves.”
At present, secondary school children from Birkenshaw travel more than four miles to Whitcliffe Mount in Cleckheaton. In November 500 cars formed a rush-hour convoy, bringing roads to a standstill.
Vehicles travelled to Batley Sports and Tennis Centre to call for the council to back the plans. For more information go to bbghigh.co.uk.
