These pupils at Reevy Hill Primary School, Buttershaw, Bradford, got their hearts racing when Yorkshire’s own national heart charity, Heart Research UK, paid them a visit as part of its Treasure your Heart in Bradford campaign.
The ten and 11-year-olds donned pirate hats and eye patches to take part in action-packed activities such as ‘digging for treasure’, ‘shooing the rats’ or ‘brushing the decks’.
They recorded the amount of exercise they did, ensuring it added up to the recommended one hour a day. Heart Research UK’s Lifestyle team also got the children involved in themed activities, teaching them the need to lead a heart-healthy lifestyle. Bea Dinsdale, lifestyle manager at Heart Research UK, said: “This is a fun and imaginative way to get pupils to learn about why they need to take good care of their heart health from an early age.”
