Going back to school will be exciting for 5,000 pupils and staff.

Three new secondary schools will open their doors for the first time as part of Bradford Council’s £400 million Building Schools for the Future programme.

Tong High School, Titus Salt School – formerly Salt Grammar – and Buttershaw Business and Enterprise College now have eye-catching buildings equipped with state-of-the-art technology which will revolutionise learning for students and the local community.

Councillor Colin Gill, executive member for services to children and young people, said: “It’s been fantastic to see the three schools taking shape as tangible evidence of our commitment to boost the life chances of youngsters across Bradford.

“The well-lit, well-ventilated, technologically-sophisticated and attractive new buildings will help us to improve the quality of teaching and will raise pupils’ educational attainment even further.

“Within the next decade every Bradford secondary school will be provided with the modern facilities it needs so that every single one of our children in every part of the district will have even more opportunities to fulfil their potential.”

Work is set to start in the autumn term on Phase Two of the scheme which will include rebuilding four secondary schools, Grange, Beckfoot and Hanson in Bradford and Greenhead at Keighley – each will also have its own secondary special school unit.

All four are scheduled to open in September, 2010.

Three new primary special schools will also be built on the sites of the mainstream schools. These will be Delius Primary at Lapage/Bradford Moor, Chellow Primary at Heaton and Phoenix Primary at Guardhouse in Keighley. These schools are set to be completed by December 2009.

The work to transform all the district’s schools is being carried out by the Integrated Bradford consortium as part of the district’s £400 million Building Schools for the Future programme.
