A Bingley voluntary scheme to drive elderly and disabled patients to doctors’ surgeries may be extended to outlying villages.

A pilot “social car” transport scheme has been run by Shipley and Bingley Voluntary Services since 2010, with volunteers taking people who are registered with Bingley health centre to GP and hospital appointments.

Nearly 90 people have registered with the scheme and in a 12-month period the nine drivers made 151 journeys.

The service is now conducting an audit to find out the impact of the service and may extend it to Cullingworth , Denholme , Wilsden and Crossflatts .

A spokesman said: “We hope to share this information with other surgeries and health centres in Bingley and district to see if this is a service that they would like to institute for their patients.”

An update on the scheme was included in a report on Shipley and Bingley Voluntary Services, which will go before Bradford Council's Shipley Area Committee on Wednesday.
