Hoping to raise thousands of pounds for a good cause were the organisers of the 47th Harden Beck Horticultural Society (HBHS) Summer Show, held yesterday.
More than a thousand people were on the show field behind the Golden Fleece Pub to hear music from Wilsden Brass Band and see flower and vegetable exhibits, arts and crafts.
The show was opened by Chris Raine, the founder of The Ear Trust, which supports the Yorkshire Cochlear Implant Service.
He has been behind a major drive for a cochlear implant centre at Bradford Royal Infirmary, the first in the UK, to transform the lives of profoundly-deaf babies, children and adults.
Fundraisers for the T&A Listening for Life Appeal launched a stone sponsorship scheme for people to give £10 to buy a stone in the walls of the centre – for which a further £1m is still needed.
