Brothers Jonathan and Richard Holmes are preparing to take part in the London marathon to raise vital funds for charity.

Jonathan, 35, of East Morton, will also take part in the Edinburgh Marathon just five weeks after the London event on Sunday, April 17. He is hoping to raise £2,000 for the charity Asthma UK as his six-year-old son Toby has suffered from the condition since he was a baby.

His younger brother Richard, of Micklethwaite, is raising money for The Children’s Trust, a national charity working with children who have multiple disabilities and complex health needs.

Jonathan, a surveyor for Ernest Wilson’s & Co Ltd, said he had never run a marathon before but was hoping to complete the 26 mile course in four hours.

He said: “I have been doing various half marathons and since Christmas I have been doing around 30 miles a week training, so fingers crossed I will do it in four hours.”
