THE Environment Agency has released a film to celebrate World Fish Migration Day, which takes place today.
The film, titled Our Rivers: Recovery and Renewal, features stunning scenery from valleys and rivers across Yorkshire, including the Aire and the Wharfe.
It features representatives from the Agency, Yorkshire Water, and local schools, discussing the improvement in water quality in recent years that has seen fish such as salmon and eels return to our waterways.
Mark Scott, Yorkshire area director for the Environment Agency, said: “We have worked tirelessly to improve the water quality in our rivers and bring back the native fish who inhabited the rivers of Yorkshire centuries ago.
“In the coming years, we will continue to install fish passes at weirs so that fish such as salmon and sea trout can migrate up and downstream for spawning.”
